The pretty village of Lonlay l'Abbaye is situated mid-way between the towns of Domfront and Flers and is 3k from Le Bois-Ellier. It has a beautiful abbey (cica 1071) and town square and is surrounded by walks and scenery, including the local viewpoint Fosse Artor.
Lonlay has a mini-supermarket, hairdresser, cash machine, post office, doctor, vet, pharmacy, bar, restaurant and a self-service petrol station. You can buy delicious locally made ice cream, cider and beer direct from the farm and biscuits from the Biscuiterrie de L’Abbaye. You can of course visit cider and calvados producers if that is your particular tipple.
There are lots of things to do and places to visit in this area of Normandy but it's also a great spot to do absolutely nothing at all. If you want the hustle and bustle of city life this is not for you; if you want to re-charge your batteries in beautiful, peaceful rural surroundings then it’s perfect.
